Originally captured on 16mm colour film, this home movie is from the collection of Dr W.R. Lawrence (MBE 1952) who was a medical practitioner in Te Aroha.

Children ride down a wooden slide near the beach. Children wade in the shallows at the beach near the rocky shore. Children sit on the edge of a walking track overlooking the beach then carefully walk back down the hill together. The children and other onlookers inspect a returning fishermen’s catch being unloaded from a row boat. Children explore rock pools and watch the surf break on the rocks. People crowd in to see the catch in a fishing net being pulled in to shore. Girls wearing sun hats swing on swings. A little boy explores the beach before having a turn on the swings with the girls. Children drink with a straw. Children play in the sand repeatedly jumping in to a hole they have dug. Children play on a rope swing tied in a tree. A caravan is parked near the beach. Views from several angles pan across a camping ground with numerous tents and cars. Exteriors of “KENNEDYS STORE & DINING ROOM”, “Ted Brown’s GENERAL STORE”.
