A compilation of three water safety advertisements produced by the National Water Safety Council and the New Zealand Broadcasting Service’s Commercial Division for radio broadcast on 2XP in 1957. Commercials spoken in te reo Māori and English.
1. Introduction in te reo Māori [Requires translation]. Announcer, “Yes, too many Māori people are losing their lives through drowning. Like other people they become careless, they forget water is dangerous”. Te reo Māori speaker, [Requires translation]. Announcer, “Let us all learn to swim, let’s learn to be safe in water. Ask your friends to teach you to swim, remember swimming clubs will teach you free. Learn now”.
2. Introduction in te reo Māori [Requires translation]. Announcer, “Yes, too many Māori people lose their lives through drowning. They forget the dangers of water, they become careless.” Te reo Māori speaker, [Requires translation]. Announcer, “Māori and pākehā must learn to swim, to be good swimmers. Your friends in swimming clubs, surf clubs and the Royal Life Saving Society will teach you to swim”.
3. Introduction in te reo Māori [Requires translation]. Announcer, “Yes we can all learn Holger-Nielsen’s system of resuscitation, members of the Royal Life Saving Society, the swimming clubs and surf life saving clubs will teach you”.
