The last trams travel through central Auckland on 29th December, 1956.

Busy Auckland streets; trams; a traffic officer directs traffic from the middle of the road; prominent Auckland buildings.

Tram destinations include: Town Hall, Karangahape Road, Herne Bay

The tickets for THE last ride are handed out. Forward-facing signage on top of the tram at the front reads, “The End of The Road”. A large sign along the top: “The Original ROCK ‘N’ ROLL”. On the tram windows: “1902-1957” and below: “I Am The Last Tram”.

The tram draws to a halt in Queen Elizabeth II Square. Speakers address the large crowd facing the stationary tram. A man is seen filming with a small movie camera.

The tram is steered into the depot. The tram drivers shake hands with officials.
