This item is part of the Tauranga Libraries Norman Blackie Collection. Norman Blackie (1899-1993) was a keen amateur filmmaker who captured civic events around Tauranga using a modified Keystone Model A7 16mm camera.

This actuality shows scenes from the Tauranga Orange Festival in 1963 and 1965 and the Bay of Plenty Floral Festival in 1964. Scenes include: shop window displays; activities and games in the street as a large crowd looks on; and a street parade. Floats and performers include: the Plunket float; the festival Queen float; Irish float; marching girls; and Banina sewing machine float. The parade arrives at the racecourse, where there are speeches, families picnicking, a bagpipe band and a dog and child play on a see-saw. The 1965 festival Queen [Miss Mountfort] is crowned at a ceremony at the town hall.

Further footage shows scenes from the Bay of Plenty Floral Festival at the Tauranga Town Hall in August 1964, including a shot of the festival programme and a tour around the floral displays.

Scenes of the 1965 Orange Festival parade: numerous floats travel down Cameron Street as crowds watch, including nurses and patients watching from outside the hospital.
