BBC Radio Newsreel received via shortwave and recorded in New Zealand, 20 July 1944, 11.30am.

Ben Whittaker presents coverage of Allied advances following the D-Day landings in Normandy. Yesterday morning the "greatest air assault in history" began.

BBC war reporter Stewart MacPherson gives an eye witness report at dawn on Tuesday morning July 18, 1944, from Normandy. He is looking down on a factory target in the town of Colombelles. (Continual sounds of firing and explosions in the background.) He reports R.A.F. bombers are moving in an endless stream across the sky.

The next day, reporter Frank Gillard reports on the result of that air bombardment. He describes the impact on the huge steelworks at Colombelles and the death and destruction which resulted; the factory lying in ruins and German bodies everywhere.

British Spitfire pilot Flight Lieutenant Rutland (?) describes the arrival of the American Air Force bombers, about 700 Liberators and Fortresses.

Stewart MacPherson reports on the second phase of the attack by the Americans; 'bombs, bombs and more bombs.' (recording incomplete)

Side 2. BBC Pacific Service programme "Anzacs On Tour."
English journalist Lester Powell and Corporal Hugh Baker (of Brighton Beach, Melbourne and now in the R.A.A.F.) visit and discuss Lloyd's of London.
They describe the insurance firm's grand headquarters in Leadenhall Street. (recording incomplete.)
