A compilation of five audio cuts.

1. Viscount Lord Cobham's address to school children during a visit to Samoa in August, 1959.He talks of the value and importance of a liberal education. Gives definition of education by a master of Eton School. Tells the story of machine that could do the work of 100 ordinary men. But no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.

2. Interviews recorded during a reunion at Mesopotamia Station in October 1960.1. W.J. Gardner of the Historic Places Trust tells of visiting site of Samuel Butler's hut on Forest Creek, where he wrote the first chapters of "Erewhon." a plaque has been unveiled there. 2. Interview with Jack Patterson, a musterer of 1903 working for manager Colin Urquhart. He talks about the dangers of mustering in those days, card playing and other forms of entertainment. 3. Mr. McMullen, a waggoner who worked on the station around 1900, carting wool. He says up to eleven horses were needed to cross the river at times. 4. Nick Carney, a rouseabout who worked at Mesopotamia from 1887-1908.

3. British actor, Sir Donald Wolfitt, is interviewed about his work during a tour of New Zealand January 22, 1960.

4. Rear Admiral Peter Phipps, the first New Zealander as Commander-in-Chief of the Royal New Zealand navy, speaks about the training policy and help given to New Zealand by the Royal Navy in January 1960.

5. American satirist Tom Lehrer talks about his parodies, audiences and his friendship with Princess Margaret on a visit to New Zealand
