Side 1. No.207: (1) Visit by Super Constellation, (2) Visit by Globe Master, (3) Talk with Mr Estell, Part 2.
Side 2. National Beekeepers Association National Conference, Greymouth, 7 Sept. 1955. Includes discussion of a remit on the economic value of bees in top-dressed and aerial-sewn marginal hill country.
President Mr Williams introduces Mr Cloake of Geraldine who then speaks to the remit. There has been great demand by hill country farmers for bees to help with clover pollination. However, this could be hazardous to beekeepers because of the long distances to travel to move the bees, so the Agriculture Department is being asked to carry out a trial. Mr Gumbrill seconds the remit. He says the season is short in the hill country, with hives at the mercy of frosts and high winds.
Mr T. Pearson of Darfield asked for the remit to be thrown out, saying further investigation is not necessary. Another delegate, Mr Hamilton also makes some comments. Mr Ackroyd of Christchurch asked for the remit to be amended to ask the Department of Agriculture to educate farmers about the economics of keeping bees on hill country, and the amended remit was passed.
