These cuts are recordings from Joe Brown's Dunedin Town Hall dances. They consist mainly of music by Doug Ross and his Orchestra with some occasional commentary.

Side 1. (1) 12/3/1955. At the end of the first track, an unidentified announcer says the band is Doug Ross and his Orchestra. It is the 19th anniversary of the Town Hall dances which began in 1936.
(2) 26/3/1955 An unidentified announcer says Doug Ross is at the piano. He also comments on all the different hair styles of the women who are present. He introduces Maureen Patterson, who used to sing with the band and she makes a few comments about the people present. Some members of the Air Force are in attendance. Joe Brown is heard announcing the next dance, with the band led by Doug Ross.
(3) 2/4/1955. Joe Brown calls on the gentlemen to take their partners for the first dance.

Side 2. (1) 10/4/55, An unidentified announcer introduces the first waltz.
Doug Ross and his band are the orchestra.
(2) 23/4/1955 An announcer says this is Hayseed Night at the Town Hall. A 'Dad and Dave' Fancy Dress competition is taking place.
(3) 30/4/1955. Doug Edy, the leader of the Musicmakers, is named by the announcer as being the clarinet soloist in the previous track (not heard on this recording)
The new band at the Town Hall dance are Doug Edy and his Musicmakers with Nola Hewitt and Mervyn Fay vocalists.
The (Otago) Students' Capping Band are described arriving on stage in a fancy dress costume. Joe Brown introduces the Capping Band.
