Alison Parr interviews conductor Janos Fϋrst, born in Budapest, making his debut in 1972 in London. They discuss his early childhood and how music came to be an important part of his life from an early age. Eighteen minutes into this interview there is a newsflash by Catriona Macleod which announces that Yitzak Rabin, Prime Minister of Israel has been shot dead. After this newsflash Janos Furst goes on to talk about the importance of music in our lives and the wholly good nature of it. Throughout the interview he refers to Beethoven as he is in New Zealand to conduct the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra through the nine movements. Interview ends with start of 3rd Beethoven movement.
