Tk 4 - Punk Rock. [This appears to be an excerpt from a BBC radio documentary, possibly circa 1979?]
Interview by Paul Gambaccini with Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols who has gone back to his real name, John Lydon, and formed a new group called Public Image Ltd, which has just released a new single"Public Image" [An excerpt of this is played.]
Lydon says the Sex Pistols music to him reflected how he felt - 'Hell on Earth'. Felt he got a raw deal with past managers and didn't see much of the money. Didn't like becoming 'public property'. Was called Rotten because he had rotten teeth and so bashed them out with a microphone! Punk music began to dwindle with a lack of venues for the bands to perform in and radio stations being very reluctant to play their music on air.
[Excerpt of "Complete Control' by The Clash.] John Tober [?] interviews Mick Jones from The Clash. He says he sees the band as his job and is staying with it. Mentions a benefit concert they plan to do for Sid Vicious. Talks about swear words in the lyrics to his songs and how he doesn't think they should become stigmatised because of this. Some of their songs will not go to air due to the swearing. [Excerpt of "Tommy Gun" by The Clash.]
