Gerald Priestland is probably Britain most popular communicator in the field of religion today. In 1982, music to his embarrassment, Priestland was runnerup to Prince Charles as the BBC's Man of the Year, easily beating the Pope. He spent 33 years on the staff of the BBC, half as a foreign correspondent, before leaving it to became an independent writer and broadcaster. He now has 14 books and several major series to his name. In February 1985 he visited New Zealand as a guest of the Quaker Society of Friends, of which he is a member. Whilst here he spoke to Wayne Mowat about the road to pacifism.
