From the back country : tales from out of town. The end of the world.

Peter Hodson remembers Professor Bone, who came to the town of Glenorchy in 1929 predicting the end of the world. He brought with him boxes of food, two women (beyond child bearing age by all accounts) with which to repopulate the world, and a big iron door to attach to a tunnel he had previously discovered on a hill behind the town. The locals, with good humour, helped him set up his shelter and watched him lock the door. 'Doomsday' came and went and the locals observed the door carefully for two months before anything happened...
