Allen, James, 1855-1942, Speaker/Kaikōrero

Sir James Allen, former Minister of Defence and Acting Prime Minister, records a speech he originally made in the House of Representatives on 19 December 1918.

[Prime Minister Rt. Hon W.Massey and Rt Hon Sir Joseph Ward were about to depart to represent New Zealand at the Paris Peace Conference, which set the terms of peace at the end of World War I.]

In the speech he talks about New Zealand's presence on the Council of Nations, his pride in the service by New Zealand forces during the war, the importance of a Navy to the British Empire and New Zealand and his hopes for post-war New Zealand.
