Richard Prebble affirms his loyalty, to the Labour Party and his
committment to the election of a Labour government in 1990, after his
dismissal from the Cabinet. Prime Minister David Lange replies to the
question of what the row is about. Oppositon leader Jim Bolger responds
to the events with a plea for the government to get its economic stance
sorted out and he says the uncertainty must be resolved. Political
editor Richard Griffin speculates as to what is likely to happen now
with Roger Douglas and the sale of assets programme, and he talks about
the challenge to David Lange's leadership. Political scientist Keith
Jackson gives his views on the events that have led to Richard Prebble's
dismissal from the State Owned Enterprises portfolio and from Cabinet.
He says that the traditional collective decision taking by Cabinet has
broken down under the present government. Dr. Alan Simpson comments on how the spotlight is now on David Caygill as a potential leader. The
Labour Party's Backbone Club spokesman Ron Bailey praises the way
Richard Prebble has taken his dismissal and says the Club supports Mr
Prebble's return to the Cabinet.
