Lyttelton-Wellington Ferry Service - talk by Captain B.B.(Basil) Irwin.

Gives a history of his sailing career which began with the Shaw Savill line, sailing between England and Australia. He recalls experiences as an apprentice.
In 1918 he was appointed to the Maraeroa inter-island ferry between Wellington-Lyttelton, also known as the 'steamer express.'
He gives a history of the service and the many vessels he worked on.
In 1938 in Wellington his ships's anchor snapped the moorings of HMS Achilles at Clyde Quay.
He ends by describing the difficulties the service experienced during World War II.
