In 1982 a book based on interviews with local kaumātua Wiki Popata concerning the history of the Rangaunu Harbour and surrounding district was being written, pre-eminently by Shane Jones, the speaker at this stage. At one time, the original manuscript was mislaid, but since rediscovered.
