Waihirere of Te Tairawhiti performs at the 5th New Zealand Polynesian Festival, held in the Lower Hutt Town Hall, 1979.

Waihirere emerged as the winner of the Festival, the first group to win it twice (they previously won the inaugural festival, held at Rotorua in 1972).
