In March of 1988, many parts of the Gisborne, East Coast region were devastated by floods and cyclonic winds causing millions of dollars of damage. The cyclone was officially named Cyclone Bola.

Te Reo O Aotearoa's representative in Tairawhiti, Bruce Burn filed this telephoned report about Cyclone Bola.
