The first ever Conference on the History of Samoa was held recently in Wellington. Key speakers include Samoan historian Dr. Malama Meleisea, Rev. Leuatea Sio and Dr. Aiono-Le Tagaloa. Dr. Aiono-Le Tagaloa recalled significant and historical signposts in the education system of Samoa especially during the New Zealand administration before the country became independant in 1962.
Dr. Aiono Fanafi was the first Samoan to be appointed Director of Education in the country.
A recently established scheme in New Zealand called "Home Care 60 Plus" is gathering momentum in Auckland. The scheme is being provided for by the Methodist Mission and the Social Welfare to assist the elderly Pacific Islanders .Unfortunately the elderly are not forthcoming and we discuss this reluctance with Theresa Santos.
