Haare Williams introduces Māori lesbian feminist Dr Ngahuia Te Awekotuku who talks about taking part in the "Stonewall 25" international gay and lesbian human rights celebration and ILGA conference in New York.

She is interviewed by Judy Lessing (in New York) and talks about the impact of colonisation and Christianity on the tradition of same-sex relationships which existed throughout the Pacific. she says although things have improved for gay and lesbian communities in the cities, there are still desperately isolated gay and lesbian people in small-town New Zealand.
