This one of a series of recordings of broadcasts by Te Reo o Aotearoa from the opening of Hoani Waititi marae in Auckland in 1980.

Henare Te Ua introduces master carver Tuti (Tony) Tukaokao, who is interviewed by Haare Williams in the new meeting house at Hoani Waititi marae. He pays a tribute to the late Hoani Taiapa who was the master carver in constructing the new meeting house "Nga Tumanako".

Tuti Tukaokao then goes on to explain the carvings inside "Nga Tumanako" [Interview is in English and Maori].

The recording ends with "Awhi mai ra' by the New Zealand Māori Chorale.
