Opening of Wharekai at Wairaka Marae, Whakatane continued (see MPT 827 for details).

Ngakohu Pera's whaikorero continues on MPT 828. Picking up from his kōrero about Wairaka, and referring to the reclaiming of the foreshore in front of the marae.

Two waiata are then performed by Nga Potiki: Tera Raua Iwi te Mihi Noa Atu Ra & Piki Mai E Koro Kake Mai Ra.

This is followed by a speech by the Mayor of Whakatane, Mr Morpeth (waiata variation of Tahi Nei Taru Kino by Nga Potiki). Mr. Morpeth congratulates Mrs Stole [first name unidentified] (Secretary of the Waiariki Women's Institute) and Dick Dodds (Chairman Wairaka Tribal Committee) for their work. Then Donald Butler (Chairman of the Whakatane County Council) speaks.
