Opening of Dining Hall at Tukorehe Marae

Ngāti Tukorehe of Kuku Pa, Ohau, Levin opened their new dining hall Ngaparetaihinu and over 500 people attended to see the opening of this hall.

The official party was lead by of Sir Eruera Tirikatene and Mr. Charles Bennett, who were greeted in the traditional manner, with the challenge, powhiri, karanga and haka.

This was followed by whaikōrero and waiata, then the ribbon was cut by Ani Wehipeihana and the door was opened. The house was blessed by Canon Hohepa Taepa.

After the hakari Rawiri Winterborne who was the main carver described the carvings of the meeting house Tukorehe named after the ancestor from whom the hapu also takes its name.
