Whatarangi Winiata, 1935-

Whatarangi Winiata o Ngāti Raukawa speaks first in Māori and then in English.

What is the name of that mountain standing younder, it is Tararua.
Whatarangi Winiata o Ngāti Raukawa speaks about his upbringing. He says that his parents never spoke Māori to him and his siblings. There was only one language in the house and that was English.

He lived in America and Canada for twelve years, and on his return he persevered in learning to speak Te Reo Māori me ona tikanga. He acknowledges Pateriki Rei, Matenga Baker and Wiremu Parker for their patience and support during his time of learning.
