Profile of Scotty Macpherson.

From the gum fields of Te Hapua, Te Kao, Ahipara and Kaitaia have come
some of the present leaders on our national scene. People imbued with a
determined spirit from the wind-swept places of the Far North.
People such as Matiu Rata, Mira Zsazy, Dr. Boss Gregory, to name a few.

It was in this environment that Scotty MacPherson nurtured his concern for people through the influence of his elders who unfolded for him traditions of his ancestors of Te Rarawa and Te Aupouri tribes.

To help with the budget, Scotty up to the age of eighteen worked in the gum fields and after leaving school he became a pupil at St. Stephens and later graduated at Auckland Teachers Training College.

His first teaching post took him to Te Araroa District High School, then back to St.Stephens as a Master. For eighteen months he was Principal at Opotiki College, then back to St. Stephens as Principal.

Here he talks with Haare Williams about various aspects of his teaching life.
