Delegates from all parts of the country converged on the Wellington Town
Hall for the 23rd Anuual conference of the "Māori Womens Welfare League".
A feature of the conference was a delegation of Cook Islanders from Porirua,
and a delegation of a junior men's branch.

The offical opening included the Mayor of Wellington, Micheal Fowler, Prime
Minister Bill Rowling, Minister of Māori Affairs Matiu Rata, and many others.
