Magazine Programme about Pacific People.

TRANSLATORS: There is a need for interpreters and translators in NZ's
multi-cultural society. The nessicity for the use of translators by Pacific Island communities is no exception, however there is concern that some people providing the service are not adquately qualified to do so. The President of NZ's Society of Translators and Interpretures Dr.Sabeni Fenton spoke with Sam Thompson about the mis-conceptions that people have about the profession.

GANG LIFE: PRIDE= [Personal Respect in a Damaged Enviroment] An
increasing number of Polynesians young people involved in gangs are now
attemping to move away from gang life, according to Auckland Community
Project worker Tom Fonoti who runs a youth programme called PRIDE.
He says the programme is trying to give youth confidence to look at other
opportunities, and more and more Pacific Islanders are taking up the challenge.

FINANCE: Tonga's finance Miniter was invited to NZ as a guest of the Minister of Finance, Hon Bill Birch and Treasury. The aim of the visit by Tuatutsi Fakafanua (??) who took over as Tonga's finance Minister last year was to look at last years "budget" and the effects of economic reforms. He spoke with Elma Ma'ua about how Nzs bugetry system could benefit Tonga and tourism in Tonga.
