Korimako speech contest.(National-in Te reo Māori)

Kaupapa: He Taonga tuku iho.

Unidentified speaker, that the most important Taonga is our language Te Reo Māori and we must hold on to that taonga that has been handed down by our ancestors,

The speaker also acknowledges Pei Te Hurinui Jones, judges and fellow competitors, then carries on and gives his reasons why our reo is so important, without our language who is going to welcome our visitors. It is our language that will not only identify who we are but will stand us in good steed.
Nb: excellent kōrero from this young man. (It is unfortunate that his name and school was not recorded by the recorder).

Female Whanau-a-Apanui contestant.

Acknowledges Te Tai Tokerau (hosts) marae, those that have passed on, judges, fellow competitors and visitors.

Her Kaupapa: " Ko oku koroingo mo tatou te Māori" My desires for Māori. Her hopes for Māori to reach their heights of excellence. Spoke about new babies and education and the whakatauakī "whaia e koe te iti kahurangi, ki te tu ohu koe, he
Maungateitei and the seed of faith" Ko te amorangi ki mua, ko te hapai I o ki
muri..

Unidentified male student.
