Sitiveni Rabuka, the former army commander who toppled Fiji's newly-
elected government in a 1987 military coup, has been sworn in as the
country's new Prime Minister. Mr Rabuka heads the Fijian Political
Party, and will lead a coalition government. The President, Ratu Sir
Penaia Ganilau, appointed Mr Rabuka after the inconclusive general

Prime Minister Jim Bolger, and Auckland lawyer Richard Naidu. Mr Naidu
was a Fiji government employee before the coup, and is a member of the
