Seven people were killed in a mass murder in Masterton on Friday night,
four of them children. Police have charged 25-year old unemployed
shearer Raymond Ratima with one of the murders, and are considering
laying six further murder charges against him. Kim Hill i/vs Kerry
Lamont of Radio Wairarapa. Mary Kerehi tells Karlum Lattimore the local
Māori community is rallying around the Masterton families affected by
the killings. Kelvin Dick speaks to David Dew, a Masterton funeral
director. Mr Dew says the victims' bodies will be taken onto the local
marae today. Live material from John Barlow, principal of the school
one of the victims attended, Raymond Ratima's son Piripi Ratima. Grace
Ng, co-ordinator of support services following the Aramoana mass
murders, is i/vd. Ms Ng says some people affected by the Masterton
killings may need long-term counselling.
