This material may contain language or sentiments that may be considered offensive or inappropriate.

Part 2 of 5. Announcer Ulric Williams continues his commentary of a ceremonial changing of the guard, which is taking place in front of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. [The first time the New Zealand J Force took on this role was 2 October 1946, likely the date of this recording].
A New Zealand military band is heard in the background as Williams describes their new blue uniforms. The first platoon marching past is a Divisional Cavalry (Div. Cav.) company, followed by the Māori platoon. Williams then hands the microphone to Lieutenant Haig of Ruatoria to say a few words. Lieutenant Haig greets listeners in te reo Māori.

Part 3 of 5. Announcer Ulric Williams continues his commentary of a ceremonial changing of the guard, which is taking place in front of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. [The first time the New Zealand J Force men took on this role was 2 October 1946, likely the date of this recording].
Williams describes the inspection of the New Zealand guard which was replacing the Australians as the Guard outside the Imperial Palace. These men were drawn from the Div. Cav. unit serving with J Force.
At the same time, a Māori platoon was relieving the Australians as the Guard outside the British Embassy in Tokyo. Williams hands over to Lieutenant Wananga Haig to describe this ceremony in te reo Māori. [His description is heard on ID 9387].

These recordings are two from a series made by the New Zealand Broadcasting Service unit stationed with J Force troops in Japan, 1946-1948. The recordings were sent back for playing on radio in New Zealand as part of the series 'With the Kiwis in Japan'.
