DECISION 04/231 – PFIZER CONSUMER HEALTHCARE - NICORETTE

Broadcast on the Family Health Diary, the advertisement said, “Beat Cigarettes with Nicorette”. … The fact is it’s the tar, carbon monoxide and toxins in cigarettes that cause most of the damage, not nicotine…”.

The Complainant said the claim was false, and the public was being misinformed about the drug nicotine.

Code for Therapeutic Advertising, Principle 3, Guideline 3(a) and 3(b).

The Board said the advertisement observed the overriding high standard of social responsibility stipulated by the Therapeutic Code and the claim did not mislead or deceive the consumer.

Decision: Complaint Not Upheld
