The Mad Dog Gang Meets Rotten Fred and Ratsguts was a New Zealand children’s television production adapted from a book written by Ian Mune who collaborated with Arthur Baysting to produce the screenplay.

The drama is centred around two children (Tony & Sue) who are sent to live on their uncle’s farm while their mother recovers in hospital. They form a friendship with a Māori boy (Harvey) with whom they form a secret society called The Mad Dog Gang.
The children become embroiled in the mystery surrounding Rotten Fred, a local vagrant, his dog Ratsguts, and a rash of sheep killings which angers the local farmers and community.

In this episode the story reaches its climax and resolution as the farmers confront Rotten Fred and the children discover what is behind the killing of the sheep.
