Outrageous Fortune chronicles the lives of the West family, who have always done things the less-than-legal way. However, when Dad Wolfgang West gets sent to jail for four years, his family receives a very sharp wake-up call.
Mum Cheryl decides that it is time for her family to get out of the crime game once and for all. No more robbing, ripping people off or lying. However, for this family, breaking the habits of a lifetime is much easier said than done.

“The Hoochie Daddy range is launched with a major piss up, but Gary’s involvement in the company is causing disquiet for Judd. Cheryl is also thrown to find that Gary wants his accountant to take over the Hoochie books. Judd isn’t exactly sympathetic – what did Cheryl expect? He’s still annoyed that she took this deal without discussion. Cheryl justifies that she had her reasons, and is determined she can handle Gary. And with Munter away, Van has fears for Kasey’s honour. This isn’t helped when Kasey reveals her dream wedding plans will be paid for with a bonus from Gary for undisclosed services. Cheryl is not pleased to find that this plan involves holding parties that don’t exist. Riled, Cheryl confronts Gary about his money laundering plans. Gary’s response is: it’s merely tax. He has some profits he’d like to hide. Cheryl is torn – she knows that Kasey and Rochelle need the extra dosh, and it is only tax. But when she floats this with Judd, he’s appalled. His advice: Cheryl should walk away from the business before Gary takes it down. Cheryl is annoyed.
Van takes advice from Pascalle, who can’t believe that Gary would go for Kasey. But she has a plan to keep Kasey faithful. Kasey nobly tells Gary that she has to abide by Cheryl’s decision. Van arrives to misconstrue, but Kasey is also misconstruing Van’s interest. This is cleared up as Kasey tells Van she won’t root him, and Van offers the engagement ring he’s bought on Munter’s behalf. But Kasey isn’t happy. If Munter’s spent this much, the wedding might not happen at all. Van is riled on his mate’s behalf and ready to pop Gary, as Pascalle is keen to slap Kasey the man hog. Instead, she nobly decides to she’ll hit on Gary to save Munter.
Now Cheryl finds Gary’s accountant uplifting her accounts. This results in an altercation, and a message. If Gary wants her books, he can come and take them himself. When Gary arrives at West House, he’s warned off by an angry Judd, then attacked by Van – which doesn’t help Pascalle’s cause. Cheryl isn’t pleased at this interference and aggro, and Gary now opens his books as proof of his good intent. Further, he believes the point of money is to share it around. Cheryl decides she’s had enough of misery and conflict. She is taking the offer and spending it on those who need it, and a bloody good time. An engagement party.
Judd and Grandpa are doing a security consultation, but the client wants services of a personal nature. Grandpa overrules Judd’s doubts, and they stake out Colin’s wife. Who turns out to be Bev, from the Christmas special. She’s annoyed at her husband’s lack of trust, and delighted to see Ted. So Judd turns up on surveillance duty to find that the lover he’s meant to photograph is none other Grandpa. Judd is angry at this conflict of interest, but Grandpa justifies that it’s win/win – they could spin this out for months. Judd is far too honest, and assures Colin there’s nothing going on. Only to find that Colin is disappointed – he was hoping Bev was having an affair as an excuse to justify his own philandering, and perhaps pay less on a divorce. Grandpa is angry, but Judd counsels honesty. As a result, Grandpa fears that he’s lost Bev, only to find she’s not sorry that her marriage is over.
But as Kasey and Munter celebrate their engagement, all Judd can see is evidence of ill-gotten gains, Pascalle definitely no longer a nun, and Gary at the centre of things. When he calls Cheryl on this, and how she’s changed, she feels upset and misunderstood. But as Munter makes his speech, Judd has made a decision. Cheryl finds that he has moved out…“ www.outrageousfortune.co.nz
