''Outrageous Fortune chronicles the lives of the West family, who have always done things the less-than-legal way. However, when Dad Wolfgang West gets sent to jail for four years, his family receives a very sharp wake-up call.
Mum Cheryl decides that it is time for her family to get out of the crime game once and for all. No more robbing, ripping people off or lying. However, for this family, breaking the habits of a lifetime is much easier said than done.
The episode begins on the night in question, at Lloyd’s bank, where Wolf seems intent on breaking in, on doing a robbery. Only to be caught red-handed by police.
Several days later, Cheryl is visiting Wolf in prison and she’s angry. He told her he was turning over a new leaf, but it was all crap. Wolf denies this. He was set up.
Going back to the night in question: it’s Kasey’s birthday, and Cheryl, Pascalle and Rochelle are determined to cheer Kasey up. Jane is taken over to Wolf’s to be babysat, which is where the gals find that Sheree is intent on joining the party. This isn’t something they’re keen on, but Pascalle ensures that it happens. But she’s also noted that Cheryl and Wolf seem to be on better terms. What is going on here? Meanwhile, Judd has the ongoing problem of Van and Munter infesting his office, and is now forced into plan B taking them to his house. He knows it’s something he might regret, especially when Munter notices he has a spare room.
Back to the future, Nicky visits Wolf and denies any culpability for what happened. Wolf is already coming up with new theories on who’s to blame.
On the night, the gals party at the pub, where there is the big news that Rochelle and Lloyd are pregnant. Strangely, Loretta is keen to be part of the gang. She even gives Kasey a present. But Cheryl grows tired of Sheree’s sparring masked as confidence and decides to call it quits early. She goes to pick up Jane, but finds that Wolf has more on his mind than being a good baby sitter. It seems that he’s sold The Galleria, sold the house and bought an earth moving biz. It seems Wolf, the guy who said he’d never change, has decided to go straight. As if this wasn’t enough of a shock, he makes it clear that he wants his old life back, including Cheryl. There is still the sticking point of Jethro, but Cheryl is kind of impressed as she decides to leave Jane and head on home.
In the present, Wolf has another visitor, Van, who is confused at his father’s anger about the night. Because Van was at Judd’s considering the knotty matter of whether or not to text Kasey on her birthday.
Now on the Night, Van arrives, upset, to let Wolf know that Loretta is planning some job. Wolf, alarmed, leaves Van to babysit and heads off. At West house, Sheree is not pleased to find that Cheryl has been spending time with Wolf and accusations culminate in a fight. And Pascalle has to question what exactly is going on between her parents. As Sheree arrives back upset, to find Van’. Upset, she decides to go for it. While Loretta, we have found, is not to be pissed at all.
We go back to the robbery, where Wolf is shown to be looking for Loretta. But she is not there. And the security van is diverted by news of the robbery, and some cops who turn out to be Nicky and his associates, who steal the pokie money. Loretta now gets a visit from Van’, who turns out to be none other than Jethro. Wolf has worked out that this was all a plot by his son and daughter to get him put away. Cheryl is shocked at this monstrous accusation, and takes it up with Loretta. Who lets her know that Wolf deserves it, and if Cheryl thinks he’s changed, then she’s a fool. Cheryl, appalled, casts Loretta off, and Jethro. Then says goodbye to Wolf, a wronged man, stuck in prison. What will happen next.'' TV3; tv3.co.nz; 18/02/2009
