A documentary on the first Golden Shears competition. Begins with spoken verse and scenic shots of New Zealand cattle and sheep farming. Switches to coverage of the 1961 Golden Shears Championship at Masterton Stadium - featuring Godfrey Bowen and his brother Ivan. Ivan Bowen proves to be the winner of the 1961 Australasian Golden Shears Championship. The film ends with a fashion parade of women’s woollen apparel on the same stage. “Wool - Queen of cloth,” the narrator enthuses.

Opening Title: “Caltex Oil (N.Z.) Ltd And Tasman Vaccine Laboratory Ltd New Zealand TVL Present”. “Caltex”and “TVL” also appear - along with “Bothwicks” - on signage, where they’re designated as “Sponsors”, on stage behind the competing shearers.
