000:14 NEW PLYMOUTH - BLOOMS IN THE BUSH: In 1951 enthusiasts purchased 150 acres of land on the foothills of Mt Taranaki and planted rhododendrons. The gardens have since increased to 900 acres and the Pukeiti Trust, which runs them, has a membership of 2,000. Voluntary work is vital and has built the comfortable members’ lodge.
