Sylvia Ashton-Warner returns to her birth place to spend her later years with her children, refusing to be acknowledged as a New Zealander. Renowned for her writing and teaching theories, Sylvia emigrated to Canada because she was “discredited and persecuted” in her family country.

She talks about her teaching philosophies, her time spent teaching Māori children on the Whanganui River, her writing and her dreams of being a concert pianist.
