The puppet-like WotWots are computer-animated over live-action footage by Weta Workshop. Zoo locations include Wellington and Auckland.

In the UK the series is narrated by Nicholas Parsons. In Poland SpottyWot and DottyWot are known as Kitka and Pompon.
