Talent: Jimmy Nail

One of a series of commercials for Hutton’s meat products featuring Jimmy Nail, the Geordie actor (‘Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’, ‘Spender’) and hit singer/songwriter (principally Aint No Doubt, 1992).

Nail sits impatiently alone at a restaurant table. He spies a crumb on the tablecloth and nibbles that. He enters the kitchen, complaining, ‘There’s not a sausage out there.’ He espies a rack of rack of Hutton’s Strasböurg Sausages. ‘Strasbourg,’ he says, turning to the camera, ‘I’ve been there.’ He studies a kitchen table laden with trays of meat; ‘Cop an eyeful of this lot’. He reaches for a wrapped ham, exclaiming ‘Ah, Hutton’s eh?’ to an unresponsive chef. He turns to another another chef and tries again, ‘Hutton’s! ... Hutton’s! ... Great! ... Mucho goodo ... French are you?’ Still no response. ‘Sardinian?’ The Hutton’s logo onscreen. Well-spoken male voiceover: ‘Hutton’s Fine Fresh Foods. Mucho. Goodo.’ Nail pats the ham and, still trying to ascertain the chef’s nationality, raises his hand in a speculative salute.
