Using stills and re -enactments, this film traces the life of the New Zealand nuclear physicist Ernest Rutherford, later Lord Rutherford, born to James and Martha Rutherford of Spring Grove, New Zealand, on the 13th August 1871.

Throughout his scientific career which culminated in his splitting the atom, he never lost touch with his origins.

He left England for New Zealand, July 25th 1925 and arrived to a civic reception in Auckland.
He died in 1937.
