Welcome to the Otara Market. Join comedian Oscar Kightly on a journey through the often-muddy waters of South Auckland’s melting pot, to share a morning of kava, colour and chaos. The market has been going for 22 years. Come rain, hail or shine, around 250 stall holders show up each Saturday morning from 6am to 12 noon to sell their wares. There’s no lattes or cappuccinos here – coffee is taken hot, instant and with at least three sugars. The Otara Arts and Music Centre is famous for churning out soul divas like Mar-v-Elle, while Cook Island hula dancers are an exotic and regular feature for your Saturday morning shoppers.
