UFO was Gerry Anderson’s first fully live-action tv series and the first also aimed at adults.

“1980. The Earth. Aliens in spinning, pyramid shaped UFOs, raid the planet to secure human body parts to maintain their sterile race. Trying to stop them is SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation), a secret international outfit with a base underneath the Harlington-Straker Film Studios on the edge of London. Boss of SHADO is ... Ed Straker (Ed Bishop formerly the voice of Captain Blue in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons) ... To enable it to combat the UFOs, SHADO has an impressive range of futuristic technology: a satellite early warning system SID (Space Intruder Detector), a submarine/aircraft called Skydiver, and tank like SHADOmobiles to pursue any UFOs which land. The rarely seen alien pilots of the UFOs wear bulky space suits an helmets filled with viscous liquid.” - from “Cult TV. The Essential Critical Guide” by Jon E. Lewis and Penny Stempel. (1993).

This episode: When a “UFO causes the destruction of Lunar Module 32, [Commander] Straker demands a clean-up programme by the International Astrophysical Commission to remove hazardous space debris from Earth orbit. But Straker finds himself butting heads with I.A.C. chairman James Henderson who wants a complete shut-down of SHADO operations.” - www.fanderson.org.uk; retrieved 21/10/2013.

Filmed in colour, but this B&W print supplied to the (pre-colour) New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation.
