“ A brutally honest portrayal of life, directed by Dennis O’Rourke, set in Cunnamulla. A small isolated town populated with hardy, eccentric locals, it lies 800 kilometres west of Brisbane at the end of the railway line.

“ In Cunnamulla, Australian documentary maker Dennis O’Rourke hangs out in the Queensland town named in the title during the run-up to Christmas. The town’s true nature reveals itself to the patient; call it Queensland gothic. Violence is popular, race relations are reality un-progressive, humour is a constant. All characters are memorable, but the strongest may be Marto, the town’s heavy metal DJ and a shameless performer for camera who dreams of rock stardom, while his father delivers an extraordinary monologue about a kitchen fan. As desolate as the place seems, though, O’Rourke’s tone is less mocking than affectionate.” - (from the New Zealand Listener)
