A survey of Cook Islands preparations in 1965 for internal self-government. Traditional village life, religion and new developments in industry, education and health services are examined, as well as the Island’s connections with New Zealand and new Government structures. The first elections, opening of the Legislative Assembly under a new Constitution and the following celebrations in Rarotonga involving Keith Holyoake, NZ Prime Minister, Sir Bernard Frergusson, Governor-General, and Albert Henry, Cook Islands Premier, are also covered.
