“This is a documentary which records the memories of family members, intimate friends and former crew who shared sailing adventures of Sir Peter Blake. New Zealand's greatest sailing hero, adventurer and environmentalist, Sir Peter Blake, was gunned down by a group of pirates on the Amazon River.
The modern day explorer was part way through a voyage that was to take him to all corners of the world as he attempted to create a greater public awareness of the environmental problems facing the planet.
It was the latest chapter in the life of a man who had competed in five Whitbread Round the World yacht races, set a new speed record for a non - stop circumnavigation in a giant catamaran, and who was largely responsible for bringing the America's Cup, and its accompanying benefits, to these shores.
It was because of his past record, his ability to organise big campaigns and inspire those around him, that allowed Peter Blake to once again pull in a big team of sponsors to make the America's Cup campaigns possible.
But what wasn't known at the time of the 2000 campaign, is how close Peter Blake came to walking away from Team New Zealand.
Those interviewed in the documentary tell of his disillusionment with the infighting and hidden agendas that developed amongst certain team members.
As history shows, Sir Peter was persuaded to stay, and guide Team New Zealand to a five nil win against Prada. But it was not an experience he enjoyed.
Finally, the documentary looks at his interest in environmental issues and his setting up of Blakexpeditions, a move designed to bring public attention to the deteriorating environment around the world.” Publicity Material.
