Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s opening speech from an indigenous peoples’ conference in Fiji, circa 1990s.

One of the New Zealand delegates, Tauni Sinclair, begins processions with a speech summarising the eight-month collaborative process to establish the conference. The Māori delegates then perform a waiata, before Prime Minister Rabuka is invited to the lectern.

Rabuka officially opens the conference with a speech discussing Fijian culture and traditions, and indigenous self-determination, while touching on articles from the conference’s draft declaration.
