On the banks of the Wanganui River at Kaiwhaiki, many Māori gather to take part in the annual Catholic Hui-Aranga (Easter gathering). On the paepae of Te Kiritahi, kaumātua deliver their whaikōrero to manuhiri and tangata whenua , gathered together for the hui. Groups taking part in the Easter sporting and cultural activities parade around the perimeter of the field and marae.

The usual rugby and netball sports and parades of the various attending clubs as well as a Scottish Highland Band .

The Bishop and his entourage arrive by waka then ascend the bank, moving on through a guard of honour, to the pōwhiri on to Te Kiritahi Marae at Kaiwhaiki and offered all the pomp and ceremony. Behind the scenes food preparation of hāngī steam boxes.
Participants farewelled with haka, waiata-ā-ringa and song.
