INDUSTRIAL NEW ZEALAND - THIRD OF THE SERIES
PENROSE

Farming is one of the main industries in the Dominion but the operations of manufacturers are also important. Members of the Manufacturers Association are conferring with the Farmers Federation. New Zealand exports have increased over the years and there has been a big expanse in the machinery industry and industrial areas.

PENROSE is one such area. In the 1920s it was realised that Penrose was an ideal site for the establishment of a heavy industrial industry. Central railways and the Great South Road which runs through the heart of Penrose, carries one of the heaviest traffics in the Dominion. Factories in the area are new and up to date, turning out an amazing range of products.

A look behind the scenes gives an insight into what happens in some of these industries which include: Reidrubber; National Brush Company; Johnston Cardboard Box Co. Ltd. Dairy industry; New Zealand Glass Manufacturer; Plywood and fibrolite manufacture as well as many other industries in the area. Penrose is one of New Zealand’s greatest industrial centres.
