“I worked with my friend Ivan Davies. He arrived at my house wearing this tight-fitting black and white outfit so I plastered my bedroom walls with newspaper - it was the easiest thing to do. Originally, we had Ivan dancing to Madonna - ‘Holiday’ or something peppy. I’d just read Eisenstein’s ‘Film Form’ and ‘The Film Sense’. Eisenstein loosened me up from worrying over sound too much. I tried a mathematical approach in editing, checking out montaging techniques to give it some structural strength. The choice of sound came after editing. It’s Cook Island drumming played backwards and slowed down. I liked how it became foreign and techno. I was pleased with the result of using one Super 8 film and one sound session.”- (Lisa Reihana)
